Biography

Claudio Varagnoli is architect (1982) and PhD in “Conservation of Architectural Heritage” at Rome Sapienza University (1987), professor of Architectural Conservation ICAR/19 (2001-2024) at the University of Chieti and Pescara, and now (2024) at Sapienza Università di Roma, Faculty of Building Engineering-Architecture, Department of Civil, Building and Environmental Engineering (DICEA).

He is Visiting professor at Universidade de Coimbra (Portugal) and member of the “Centro di Studi per la Storia dell’Architettura”, and ICOMOS Italia. He teaches in prestigious Italian and foreign institutions such as the Italian Archaeological School of Athens, the Schools of Specialization in Architectural Heritage at Rome-Sapienza and Ferrara, and ICCROM (2023). He has been responsible or scientific manager in Contemporary Architecture conservation projects: currently President of the "Contemporary Art and Architecture" Committee at the Ministry for Culture and member of the Higher Council for Cultural and Landscape Heritage at the same Ministry.

He has been involved with many conservation projects after L’Aquila earthquake (2009) namely about Townscape. Heritage and Conservation, as well as listed buildings, as Palazzo Ardinghelli (L’Aquila). He is author of many publications (350 in 2024), including essays in specialized journals, monographs, contributions in proceedings.
